Looking for a Drums Alive® Class at the studio or in your school/establishment? Call us. We love to DRUM!
Drums Alive® joins the dynamic movements of aerobic dance with the pulsating rhythms of the drum. It is a unique sensory/motor program that is designed to give the mind and body instant feedback through continuous movement and rhythmical flow. It is a program that utilizes "whole brain - whole body" thinking by developing sensory motor reflexes and kinesthetic awareness. The physiological and psychological benefits are numerous including those found in traditional forms of aerobic fitness. Drumming has also been found to improve and increase the neurological connection between the 2 brain hemispheres, stimulating Alpha brain wave activity which can lead to higher levels of concentration, sensory/motor improvement, and an overall sense of well being.

An excerpt from "On Two Wheels" by Rose Ryan
Always wondering what to eat prior to your favorite butt kicking class or fitness routine? Here are a few suggestions:
1. Hard-boiled egg whites- Basically, I think eggs are the BEST breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack around. I love them any way! They are a good source of lean protein and are even better if you skip the yolk. A couple hard-boiled egg whites before a workout will really get you ready to pump those muscles. Like the yolk too? Eat one hard-boiled egg with a slice of whole wheat toast.
2. Low fat yogurt with 1/2 of a banana- This is a great marriage...yogurt has the protein you need and fruits are a great source of carbs.
3. String cheese and a couple crackers- Light, quick and simple.
4. Energy/protein bar (or shake)- I like Spirutein's Oreo the best but most of their brands are amazing. Want this post workout? Add a scoop of protein...peanut butter, maybe? This is even an amazing dessert to curb that evening craving.
5. A medium apple with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter- Accessible and simple.
6. 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with 1/2 cup of fruit (pineapple, berries, etc.)
Other Healthy Snack Ideas
Healthy Snack: Frozen Blueberries With 14 Whole Almonds
Forget ice cubes, here are two perfect foods to keep in your freezer for the ultimate crunchy paradise. Simply freeze blueberries on a piece of wax paper and once frozen add them to a container of almonds for a quick anytime snack.
Healthy Snack: Air Popped Popcorn With Unsweetened Cocoa
Popcorn is the original low calorie snack, but by itself it can get a little boring. Jazz it up with a tasty low calorie garnish like unsweetened cocoa for a hint of flavor.
Healthy Snack: Kale Chips
Whether you make them yourself or buy them, baked kale chips are a scrumptious crunchy snack. One cup of kale with a little olive oil for baking and a dash of salt creates a snack loaded with vitamins A and C.
Healthy Snack: Pistachios And Dried Blueberries
Toss together 12 dry roasted pistachios and one-quarter cup of dried blueberries for an antioxidant packed salty and sweet trail mix.
Healthy Snack: Black Bean Salsa With Celery
This snack is high on fiber and low on calories. Indulge in half a cup of Mrs. Renfro's Black Bean Salsa and two cut up medium stalks of celery for dipping.
Healthy Snack: Michael Season's Baked Jalapeno Puffs
These Baked Jalapeno Puffs are the ideal balance between real cheese flavor and the heat of jalapeno peppers. This snack is all natural, wheat free, gluten free and made with real cheese.
Healthy Snack: Okra Chips
Amazingly crunchy, okra chips are a unique and tasty treat. With a delightfully crunchy, lightly salted, and nutty flavor these will quickly become one of your favorites.
Healthy Snack: Apple Slices With Light Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese
Nothing says crunchy like a nice crisp apple. To turn an ordinary apple into a fun snack take one cup of apple slices and add a smudge of a light garden vegetable cream cheese, like Kraft Philadelphia Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese.
**** personal favorite****
Healthy Snack: Frozen Banana With Dry Roasted, Sliced Almonds
Need a fat-free creamy snack that will keep you out of the ice cream aisle? Aside from being loaded with potassium and vitamin C, bananas also freeze smooth. Grab a frozen banana toss it in a food processor, pulse it a few times, sprinkle with sliced almonds and dig in with the biggest spoon around.
Healthy Snack: Fiber Gourmet Light Mac And Cheese
With 35 percent fewer calories than standard mac and cheese and an unbelievable 18 grams of fiber per serving, this creamy comfort food is finally not off limits.
